Turkey Weekend!

As with all holiday's, there's is a certain amount of warmth that come's along with the joy of seeing family, friends, loved ones and of course, relaxation! Positive thoughts usually occur in times like these. I'm going to keep it short and simple since I have a ton of homework to do today...

Use the energy of your family around you and warms feelings floating throughout the room to think big! What am I going to do to improve my life thus far? What can I do better? This energy is a nice boost to get you thinking!

After thinking, learn from it all! And then start thinking again!

After Thanksgiving, understand that those warm feelings helped you think big! Make it a habit to receive warm feelings, and further, make it a habit to think big! The more chronic those habits are, the more  your life will improve! I can almost guarantee it.

If need be,
Eat Turkey Every Day to reach your goals!

If your a vegetarian,
Eat Cranberry Sauce and Stuffing!

Yum,
Happy Thanksgiving!

Sit back

AND

Think about the people in your life, current or previous friends, family members or random strangers who have had a deep impression on you and are the reasons you are who you are today-
positively speaking.

Have you ever thought about this?

It really makes you think.

Try it!

Spam gone good!

Spam found on Google.com isn't always that bad!

So...

I was twelve years old at the time

And...

After searching for weeks on Google.com...

'Good summer job'

'How to make a lot of money over the summer'

'How can you become rich at a young age'

'How to start a profitable business'

'Make money quickly with a Summer Job'

I finally found what I was looking for!

I kept the link explaining that Landscape Businesses are an extremely profitable niche to be in (the picture was of a landscape truck and a trailer). Something attracted me to this article... it certainly was not the photograph... well it may have been since I was twelve and any piece of machinery that I had never used before seemed cool. I read on. Seven years later, here I am studying Landscape Architecture. My life path was constructed partially due to an email that was spammed to me...

The e-article/book that was sent to be sort of resembled the following website...

commercial lawn mower

From that article came

Matt's Lawn Service (RIP- www.matt'slawnservice.com)

Then came

Matt's Lawn Care

And then

Matt's Lawn Care and Landscaping

And finally

MB Landscape Design

along with

www.MatthewRBerger.com

and

www.MBLandscapeDesign.com
(in the process of being created).

Thing's Happen For a Reason!

I guess where I'm going with this post is basically trying to get you to believe that things happen at certain times throughout your life for different reasons. Spam comes and goes all the time. You can compare that example to many things in your own life. Friends come and go... Job openings come and go... Ideas come and go... Opportunities in life come and go... and lastly, but certainly not least is the fact that clues, hints, and symbols come and go (like the e-article I came across while searching for a great summer job. I never thought I would be interested in working in the Landscape/Design industry). In reality, I was truly being handed a big hint that this was considerably the best thing for me at that time in my life. It turned out to be just what I was hoping for.

Don't let anything slip by you!

If something even slightly interests you, look into it...

It may just be your calling!

From what I've found,

You cannot just simply sit down and try to figure out what you want to do in life...

Your calling has to almost be handed to you!

I was twelve when my future career was handed to me.
It was not luck!

I was searching for a way to make money over the summer.

My industry happens to work around the spring/summer months and then into the fall. Sometimes even into the winter.

I was ready to work, in fact I was DYING to work!
The world knew I was ready for the big news,
My future was revealed.
I was going to be a Landscape Architect in the coming years.

I'm also a slow learner, so finding out what I wanted to do early was and is vital for my future overall success. Something or someone must have known this! Maybe Google knew? It has given me many years to learn and understand the trade, and I've also been introduced to many different, all wonderful people who have guided me along the way.

First off to my Mother, Father and Brother who pushed me to keep going, even in the midst of the summer, when I didn't want to mow lawns since it was so hot outside.
"You made a commitment, you have to fulfill it!"

To my Grandmother who generously gave me an endless budget to work with, in an a circle garden bed, about 5' by 5'.
"I know you can do it Matthew, you just have to put hard work and effort into it."

To my neighbor Antonio Mora and his family who let me work in their garden and always pushed me to never give up, and always strive further.

To my Aunt, Uncle, Cousins, friends and family who always pushed me to strive further.

To every single one of my customers who had the patience and understanding to give me a job at a young age.

Croton Country Gardens ('Cookie')-
Definitely not someone who I would praise(although he does know his plants) but probably someone who I learned the most from. I couldn't thank him enough!

Jan Johnsen-
I cannot even begin to thank her and all that she has done for me!
I would definitely not be at the school I am at, nor would I know 'real' Landscape Architecture if it weren't for her!

"The teacher appears when the student is ready"

That's her!

Chris, at Hilltop Farms Nursery.

My neighbor Gary,
who is a Landscape design genius. Although he pursued Marketing as a career, he is probably one of the best Landscaper designers around! He taught me 'fine' design before I was 16. He has also written a book, and is still working on it.

"I truly missed my calling as a Landscape Architect."

Marco from Clean Cut Lawns...
who my family hired to do some heavy landscape work. He came shortly after I viewed the article that I read about Landscape Businesses. He was young at the time and had just created his business. After I was done asking him questions, he finally agreed that one thing he wishes he would have done was to go to school and become a Landscape Architect. What he told me has always stayed in my mind at the times where I was thinking about just creating a business and skipping out on College. Marco's Business is extremely successful today.

I learned "Garden Hose" Garden bed design from him.

"To me, gardening is the 'funnest' thing to do in the world."

People say I'm perfectly fit for an 'Entrepreneur Business' Major...

It's true, I love everything about numbers.
 I love business.
I love the stock market.
I love owning businesses.
I love starting businesses.
I love thinking of ideas for businesses.

But

I'm on my way to becoming a Landscape Architect.
I'm studying at the University of Rhode Island.

They wonder why...

People always say, why become a landscape architect when you love business?

I say... I want to be a landscape architect. I want one of my businesses to be a Landscape Architecture Firm.

People always ask why not just open a landscape business now? Being a landscaper doesn't require college!

I say... Well I want to be a Licensed Landscape Architect, not an un- licensed Landscape Architect or a Landscape Designer.

Then people ask, well what's the difference?

I answer... In order to become a Licensed Landscape Architect, you need schooling of between 4 and 5 years, plus an internship. You then need to take a huge exam that covers everything from year one. From what I've heard, the exam requires over a year to prepare for. Once passed, you become a Licensed Landscape Architect.

As a Licensed Landscape Architect, you are able to perform all types of jobs from Residential, to commercial, to even government contracts. You can work for the government, such as the Parks Department or even the Military. All U.S. states except one (which may have changed) requires a licensed Landscape Architect.

Then people say, okay makes sense.

I then explain that business is a very stressful subject to be involved with. Everything related to business, including the stock market, requires stress. I found out early on that in order to relieve stress, for me at least, I would garden. I could, and would garden and design for hours upon hours. To me, gardening is the 'funnest' thing to do in the world. I conclude that in order to relieve stress from my hopes and dreams that I look to pursue in the near future, I would need some sort of hobby to be constantly involved with so that I do not go out of my mind. Landscape Architecture, to me, is not work. A hobby is fun, and to me, LAR is exactly that!

A Landscape Architect Make's this...

 KenCairn Landscape Architecture LLC

Most Landscaper's are not trained to make something like that.

There are many Landscape Designers who are trained to create something like that, but for the most part, something such as the plan above would be created by a Landscape Architect.

You may say...

That's looks pretty detailed. You cannot tell me that isn't stressful.

It is very stressful. I have created maybe an 1/8th of a project of that size, and had plenty of work to do! In my project, which I do not have a picture of at the moment, it took me 26 hours of hard work. Let me tell you, it was very Stressful, but once again, it's a good sorta of stress. After all its a hobby of mine, so to me, it's fun!

Why do I write these blogs?

Writing (typing) is fun.

I love to share what's on my mind.

I love sharing what I learn from others.

I love pressing the 'Publish Post' button.

I love seeing that people have visited my page.

I love going back weeks later to re-read what I wrote.

I love when people come up to me saying 'I read your blog.'

I am looking forward to reading my blogs from the beginning many years from now.

I don't want to take the chance of forgetting about a thought or idea that I had.

Sometimes I will look back at all my notes or random word documents, and decide that I want to share what I wrote.

Sharing what I know is my path.

I write to instruct.

I write to celebrate life.

I write to amuse others.

I write to keep a smile on my face, and hopefully others.

Writing these blogs is a way for me to wind down and relax.

Pick something that you do on a daily basis and write all the reasons why you do that sorta thing.

It's pretty cool to be able read the things you do and why you do them.

Make room for new ideas in your brain by writing old ones down!

Keep in mind that you have a new thought every 1.2 seconds...

You think of something new 70,000 times a day (based on an average of a few different sources' estimates)

THATS ALOT!

Start writing!

Are you in middle school or high school? Do you want to own your own business?

If so, you've come to the right place!

Welcome

I am here today to unleash an idea which to some may be a waste of time. To those who see some brightness at the end of the tunnel, I am asking that you please respond accordingly!

Now imagine...

5 young adults across the United States building and expanding their landscape businesses, at or close to the same time. Using electrical rechargeable lawn mowers and other rechargeable electrical lawn equipment, they would maintain clients' properties. Being taught how to manage plants the 'right' (sustainable) way. In the perfect world, other homeowners and businesses would see the impact of young adults caring about change and change the way they do things as well. In all, this would be a great networking opportunity for everyone to grow their businesses together. (Asking questions, asking for help, giving tips to others, and discussing growth patterns).

If you are chosen to be a part of this networking opportunity...

You will be handed all the tool's necessary to build your business. I will personally meet with each and everyone of you. I will provide you with a rechargeable electric lawn mower and a rechargeable electric weed whacker. I will help you in any way that I can to help you get started (providing assistance in gathering clients; introducing the idea and your business at a community center for discussion; etc). I will then introduce you to all the other participants via a Skype group chat (that's right, you will not be meeting the other participants until you have operated your business for one full year). Imagine building a business with the help of others around the country, and not knowing who they are in real life? And then finally meeting them? How cool would that be? If this interests you, please read on.

Your gonna hand us everything? REALLY?

YES!

Here's the challenge:

Are you ready to own your own business?

Are you ready to work with other's (whom are only available via skype or over the phone) to become some of the first young adults to change the way things are done in the landscape maintenance industry?

Can you handle change?

Can you handle a pretty good amount of physical activity?

If you have answered yes to all of the questions, then you are ready!

Here's the OTHER challenge:

I am going to pick only five (odd numbers are the best) young adults to participate in this opportunity.

In order to decide who will be chosen to develop a business through this networking experience,

I am going to first ask for a brief 1-2 page essay answering the following question.

Has Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook.com helped you accomplish any positive goals in life? If not, please explain.

or

Has Mark Zuckerberg's accomplishments helped you to realize  what your full potential truly is?

This opportunity is going to depend heavily on good 'social networking' skills. Most young adults today have a strong hand on these skills.

Do you have good networking skills in the 'real world'?
